BGP è un protocollo di rete, usato per "pubblicare" ad altri routers le rotte.
In soldoni, quando una chiamata internet esce dal Router di casa tua, deve sapere che rotta prendere nel mare di Internet per arrivare a destinazione. DNS gli dice "l'indirizzo di arrivo", mentre BGP è come il GPS che ti dice quale svolte prendere nelle strade.
Se salta quello, vengono perse le rotte, quindi niente può più comunicare con te, o tu con il mondo esterno.
I pacchetti sono persi nel mare, senza bussola. Di notte. Ed è pure nuvoloso.
