#Onthisday in 1938 Italy won its second Rimet Cup in a row, defeating Hungary 4-2 at Colombes Stadium of Paris. Having also won the Berlin Olympics of 1936, Italian football was elected as a symbol of invincibility by the fascist regime.
The two double-scorers for Italy were Luigi Colausig and Silvio Piola, the former being the first footballer ever to score a double in a World Cup final match. But at that time almost nobody called him with his real surname, because fascist authorities had changed it in “Colaussi”, which sounded more Italian.
Colausig was born in a little town of the Austrian Empire, which had been annexed to the Kingdom of Italy after the Great War.
