Hot take:
the recent trend towards ever-larger, ever-rounder UI elements in both mobile and destop operating systems is a tangible manifestation of the inherently capitalist trend towards the infantilization of the customer. While the ergonomics of mobile devices tend to incentivize the design of larger, touch-friendly elements, I feel like the latest design trend goes beyond plain usability and is meant to further shift the perception of what a smarthpone is: no longer a portable computer several times more powerful than most people's laptops but a magical toy meant to drive mindless consumption (and endless data mining)
