Covid-19, prepping

One of the reasons I find prepping valuable in a slow-burn disaster like the one we find ourselves in now, is that it helps flatten the curve for consumption of vital resources

If you already have a little bit of extra hand sanitizer at home, a little extra food, some bleach, soap, and toilet paper, then you don’t have to run out and get these things in an emergency. This helps free up those resources for people who don’t have the luxury of putting together a little stockpile

Also, your stockpile can help people around you in need. One of my neighbors is pretty much hand to mouth, I’m not gonna lecture him on preparedness. I am going to give him food and soap if he needs it

The point of prepping is to help
The point of survivalism is to help

The world ends when we decide to stop being human

Covid-19, prepping

So much of survivalism literature is about keeping others out. Your hoard is for you, let the unprepared suckers die. Not only is this inhuman, it also does not work.

Rugged individualism will not get you through this crisis, or any crisis. Because one day you will get sick, or break your leg, or lose your knife.

When that happens, the people you cared for, will care for you. Or they’ll remember that you cut granny’s rations because she wasn’t pulling her weight. And they’ll act accordingly.

And sure, maybe the person you nurse back to health gives you a fatal disease, maybe you feed the folks in your neighborhood for a little while and you still all starve, maybe.

But you went down giving the four horsemen the middle finger

And that’s all that matters in the end

@RobinHood This is exactly the thing that runs through my mind whenever I watch Doomsday Preppers. Like, so much of the show is all OMG PEOPLE ARE EVIL AND WILL TAKE ALL YOUR STUFF BUY MORE GUNS OR YOU'RE DOOMED and like... really? This kind of thinking is demonstrably false.

Every time there's an actual disaster, there are always stories of people helping each other. Like, a little while ago, my friend was telling me about an earthquake in Mexico city where her family and entire neighbourhood spent all night helping to clear rubble to rescue people who were trapped by collapsed buildings.

Humans are a lot more kind hearted than some people would like us to believe. It's probably our greatest strength.

@malerbabomba @RobinHood Yeah, I think the lesson here is try not to be in America if ever a disaster strikes

@InvaderXan This should be the #1 rule in every Post-Apocalypse Survival Manual from now on. 😂 @RobinHood
