One of best things so far about joining the fediverse has been reconnecting to Italians and Italian culture. It has been surprisingly easy compared to using commercial social media that are so US-centric.

For example tonight I saw someone reciting a poem by Alda Merini. I go, huh, who is that, never heard that name before and do a search on her. Turns out she has the longest wikipage and I'm even more surprised I don't even know of her. So I ended up searching through my messy bookshelves to find the various volumes on Italian literature I own to see if they mention her and nope, they don't. However, they all mention her friend Giorgio Manganelli 🤔 and that's why I need the (Italian) fediverse.
