Telegraphy is not only for
men!

Sadly there is a gender imbalances in amateur radio. Otherness and different approaches to the radioelectric practice are true treasures!

Here are few notable wireless women:

World Day 2020

«Every April 18, radio amateurs worldwide take to the airwaves in celebration of World Amateur Radio Day. It was on this day in 1925 that the International Amateur Radio Union was formed in Paris

Short Film "Voskhod"

«Voskhod is about a recluse radio operator who, after repairing his amateur radio with parts found in the forest, receives a distress call from a stranded Soviet cosmonaut in orbit.»

My homebrew magnetic loop antenna.

The embedded variable butterfly capacitor permit to cover a frequency range of about 4 MHz to 24 MHz, with a maximum power of 8 Watts CW/Digital or 5 Watts SSB voice.

The design is also suitable for listeners due to its very low noise floor.

«Backup wheel is a 1930's-1940's Boehme drive and Automatic Keying head punch tape reader.

The punch tape is in a continuous loop. Transmission is kept in slow speed for 20-25 WPM and in fast being capable of 100 wpm with medium somewhere in between.

For demonstration purposes we have it hooked to a Ameco code practice oscillator as shown below.»

LEZIONE 04
Oggi solo lineette!
Caratteri: Tango Mike Oscar

T -> dah
M -> dah dah
O -> dah dah dah

"The Cold War's strangest sport."

«The end of the Cold War in 1989 spelt the demise of a little-known, but surprisingly popular sport behind the Iron Curtain – high-speed telegraphy competitions.»

What a curious find at the #fleamarket : a 1888 copy of the A1 Commercial #telegraph code. You can see how complex messages were translated to simpler words, faster and easier to transmit. #ancientbooks #oldtech #books
