A Texas lawsuit including 17 red States is attempting to remove Section 504, a critical disability protection

“It prohibits discrimination based on disability in programs & activities that receive federal funding”

If successful this will be a major blow to disabled rights, accessibility & autonomy

The lawsuit appears to be rooted in transphobia as well, using it as a way to target trans AND disabled people at the same time.

Crooks and Liars · DoJ Waives ADA Regulations 'To Help With Cost Of Living'By Susie Madrak

Guidelines about accommodating people with disabilities are being scrubbed from the Justice departments website in an effort to … reduce the cost of groceries.

Once again disabled people are targeted because the government assumes no one will speak up for us.

Speak up. We need you.

Spoiler alert… this will not actually lower the cost of groceries. It will lower the quality of life for people like me though!

From the article: "Essentially, all employees and job seekers, a total of approximately 153 million Americans, benefit from the protections the EEOC provides. The Equal Pay Act—a law requiring equal pay for equal work that the EEOC enforces—covers virtually all employers, while other laws enforced by the EEOC apply to all but the smallest employers. Whether they work in the private sector or for the government, practically all employees and those applying for jobs are protected by the EEOC against illegal employer actions" (Annotations removed for clarity)

“17 GOP state AGs are trying to scrap a 1973 law that protects people w/disabilities from discrimination & ensures equal access to education, healthcare, employment etc. The states say they're only targeting the addition of gender dysphoria—but they're not.”
