You know about that canary in the coal mine, right?

When a canary kept inside a cage dies, the miners need to get out immediately. They are in extreme danger.

For us, the canary is coral reefs. They are dying now, at a rate never seen in human history. We are in extreme danger.

Capitalist commerce and industry are wrecking the planet's biosphere, tampering with the food chain that keeps us and millions of other species alive.

The overwhelming majority of people in the world – between 80% and 89%, according to a growing number of peer-reviewed scientific studies – want their governments to take stronger climate action.

But at least for now, this global climate majority is a silent majority.

The current mismatch between public will and government action amounts to a deficit in democracy.

Climate is just one symptom of the fact that humanity is using equivalent resources of 1. 7 planet Earths, way beyond Earth capacity to regenerate
We are using future Earth resources to maintain unsustainable present economic growth destroying Earth ability to maintain life

Day 22 cont 🌀🌊🔥💨

“The #Coalition (#LNP, #Liberal, #Nationals) is refusing to say if it will introduce any #policies to cut #Australia’s #greenhouse #gas #emissions in the next decade as it pledges to #unwind most #ClimateMeasures introduced under #Labor.

#PeterDutton’s position on the #ClimateCrisis came under scrutiny last week after he gave contradictory answers on whether he accepted mainstream climate science. Asked during a leaders’ debate on the #ABCAustralia whether #ExtremeWeather events were worsening, the opposition leader said: “I don’t know because I’m not a #scientist”.”

Say IT AS IT IS.

The #LNP under the leadership of the #PeterDutton has no policies. Policy changes are random.

@trib I agree. I think in this term, they could have done much more to deal with the #ClimateEmergency we experiencing. Should not have approved new coal mines, and done a lot more to protect out environment, flora and fauna. They were timid, frightened to do anything. It is time for bold, big actions to minimise the onrushing damage.

@pvonhellermannn we've had major wildfires in Wales, I've been watering plants in pots in March

"The number of wildfires in Wales already this spring has been "extraordinary", a senior firefighter has said. So far this spring Mid and West Wales Fire Service has dealt with almost 700 fires this year compared to 100 in the same period last year.."
