With the most recent online trend of having AI generated images sort of resembling the art style of Studio Ghibli, nothing sums things up more than this quote by Hayao Miyazaki on similar technology from several years ago:
"I can't watch this stuff and find [it] interesting. Whoever creates this stuff has no idea what pain is whatsoever. I am utterly disgusted. If you really want to make creepy stuff, you can go ahead and do it. I would never wish to incorporate this technology into my work at all."
Which also brings to mind this quote by Guillermo del Toro, said during a conversation with the British Film Institute, where he also, interestingly enough, references Miyazaki and his work later on:
“I saw a demo of AI and I thought oh that's what people think animation is, giving prompts and the computer does it. You know, but AI has demonstrated that it can do semi-compelling screensavers. That's essentially that. The value of art is not how much it costs and how little effort it requires, it’s how much would you risk to be in its presence. How much would people pay for those screensavers? Are they going to make them cry because they lost a son? A mother? Because they misspent their youth? Fuck no!”

"The main [bad] guys in Cronos, or the main guys in Blade [2], or the main guys in Hellboy, they're all structured. They can be the Nazis or the fascists in Pan's Labyrinth or they can be an industrialist in Cronos.... I hate structure. I'm completely anti-structural in terms of believing in institutions. I hate them. I hate any institutionalized social, religious, or economic thing." - My boy GdT

Wasn't surprised to hear that Guillermo del Toro has been praising 'The Substance', he explored very similar themes in 'The Outside' episode of his 'Cabinet of Curiosities' series. In a way, Kate Micucci's Stacey walked so Demi Moore's Elisabeth could fly. The short story 'Some Other Animal's Meat' by Emily Carroll, which 'The Outside' adapted and epxanded on, is definitely worth checking out too.

Happy Birthday to one of the new Masters of Horror, Guillermo del Toro, who (by all accounts) is just the sweetest man you could ever meet.
Holy movie heaven
New pic, but most likely from Sep 20th/21st - the pic comes from this restaurant itself, as is often the case with a week's delay. Cause... that's better, as we know.

Today I learned that Guillermo del Toro is making a #film adaptation of OG #Horror / #SciFi writer Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”.
Since he’s involved, I imagine the #movie is going to be awesome, but I wonder if it’s going to be one of those works of his that I’ll only be able to handle seeing once (e.g., “Pan’s Labyrinth”).
Sadly I've no pictures of my own but if anyone got photos of the past few days of #GuillermoDelToro's #filming #frankenstein in #edinburgh #scotland I'd be interested to see them.
