Back in around 2009 the #Roomba 500 we bought was a sleek looking all-white futuristic disk. We were sooo careful with it.
15 years in it seems the more Roomba ages, the less delicate its appearance.
Turns out these things truly are not only constructed with the operational controls of a drunk golden retriever, but also come with the mechanical strength of one.
It's also easy to maintain and repair.

Denke drüber nach, einen Saugroboter zu kaufen. Mir wäre wichtig, dass er nicht zum Briefbeschwerer wird, wenn die Server oder App abgeschaltet werden. Aber dafür eigene Firmware oder so Späße brauch ich nicht. Ebenso Datensammelwut find ich doof. Mein Wohnungsgrundriss ist privat.

For YEARS I have battled my stupid Roomba vacuum base. The danged thing has been nothing but trouble. So it turns out there is a switch that is faulty. Simply bypass the switch and the world is a better place. 20 mins to crack the danged thing open, 2 mins to cut, strip and connect the wires, 3 mins to put it all back together. YAYYYYY. No more “the bag is missing” errors.
Suck it, clean base! Literally. Empty my Roomba.

Yesterday the dishwasher flashed "Error 6" and we discovered that part has been discontinued.
Last night the humidifier began to whine.
This morning, the roomba announced (in German, no less) that it, too, was having an Error 6.
I suspect the Internet of Things is staging a revolution.
This might be the beginning of the end.

Amazon and iRobot, the maker of Roomba vacuum, mutually called off their estimated $1.7 billion acquisition, citing numerous regulatory hurdles.
