*ahem* is this thing on?

Hello! I’m Sobtanian.

Iraqi. Gamer. Geek. Geriatrician. Reader of books. Father who knits. Massive Jean-Michel Jarre fan.

I post mostly about the above, LEGO, and my dogs. Very rarely about medicine.

Moved from Twitter (RIP) to mastodon.social initially, then realised that mstdn.games is where gamers call home 😍

I keep meaning to mention that there’s new music from Death In Vegas later this year, and that’s great news!

You may not recognise the band, but you’ve definitely heard their music as it was used in many 00s ads:

Dirge was used for Levi’s Twisted Jeans: youtu.be/7OxWmM4JL18?si=B9cKbj

and Hands Around My Throat for the Sony Ericsson K700i: youtu.be/P69DApDmjJ0?si=WPzx8t

It is this latter that led me to discover them, as I loved the music in the ad.

Black Mirror S07E02: Bête Noire.

Great episode. As Black Mirror as they get, and a good one to rewatch once you know what’s going on.

I love the meta stuff they did also (I won’t spoil, search for it)

I’ve had one of those days that’s a combo of small, trivial, non-events really but they add up to a much greater whole of annoyance.

Meh.

Small ironic broadband story:

The Suffolk village we live in has FTTP to almost every postcode except ours. Our postcode is the same postcode where a cabinet is. It’s literally at the end of our close, yet ironically we can’t get FTTP currently as the houses were built in the early 70s, so don’t have underground ducts all the way to each house.

There is good news: today I got an email from Openreach saying that the postcode is now on their building plans and should be connected by December 2026 at the latest.

Be good when it does, I can finally ditch Starlink.

Folks.

I just dared check the total spend on my Steam account, and, erm, it's not pretty.

A total of $17411.04!

BLIMEY.

In my defence, I've had the account for 20 years, so that's about $870 per year.

Still. Please don't tell my wife. I've had her for twenty years also, but I don't think I've even spent half as much on her.

Here's how to do it: eurogamer.net/steam-has-a-buri

Just 100% Clocked Donkey Kong Country Returns for the third time.

First on the Wii.

Then the 3DS.

And now the Switch (original mode).

I can’t do mirrored mode to get to 200%. It’s too difficult/frustrating.

But since I’ve done 100% three times that counts as 300% right?

I woke up way too early this morning so logically and sensibly I decided very late tonight to do a “small” change in my main AV setup, because who isn’t at their sharpest when they’ve been awake 18 hours.

I’d like to propose a new term:

GIBF: Got It But Forgot.

It’s where you go to buy a digital game that’s discounted, only to find that you already have it in your library but can’t remember when you got it, or why.

GIBF also applies to other forms of media, like eBooks or even physical CDs. Anything.

Please boost to spread the word.

Black Mirror S07E01: Common People.

Dark episode is dark.

Bit too long mind you.

I think that Inside No 9 prove to us that you can spin an amazing yarn in 29 minutes, so these one hour episodes feel a bit bloated.

Hey you! Yes you!

Did you know that Pilk is a thing, and it's actually quite delicious.

Just mix Pepsi and milk.

Or Pepsi and cream if you want to be extra naughty.
