#Microsoft is blocking their extensions from being used in derivatives of #VSCode. Microsoft SOP for eliminating competitors.
And all it takes is for a majority of its users to say, "No. You've gone too far."
Will they?
ha. :'(
People still want to argue with me when I say github is evil. ffs.
@rl_dane @dnaod It's sad how easily they were able to just purchase away the majority of the open source community. It drives me crazy that so many major open source projects continue to use GitHub.
There are many projects I want to submit bug reports to or contribute to documentation. . .but I won't if that means getting a GitHub account. Even if they don't agree with the GitHub is evil part, they should know many of their users feel that way!
Man, and I'm not even talking about managers or anyone like that — I've been out of IT for over a decade.
I'm talking about devs on the Fediverse who prioritize their convenience and the functionality of their tools over everything else, and refuse to hear any argument on ethics or virtue.
But honestly, that's not what makes me sad. Those guys are lost, from my perspective.
It's the guys on here that I know and love well, and who more or less agree with me, but come 8 am Monday, it's "Oh-wee-oh!" and they switch off every bit of critical or virtuous thinking in order to survive the workweek.
That is TRAGIC.
And I get it. I'm not mad. With a few rare exeptions, I'm not ever mad, and don't speak from a place of anger when I'm on here.
But I don't know how to help them.
@rl_dane @dnaod I guess for me what's just frustrating about the situation is that nerd refusal to use tools that didn't align with certain values is the whole reason Linux and BSD exist.
Back in the 90s the inconvenience of using these systems over the mainstream was monumentally more inconvenient than using Codeberg over GitHub. But the nerds were so dedicated that they made an OS that took over almost all servers and embedded systems.
Where did that fire go?
The fire was commoditized. :/
@rl_dane I'd have to agree with GH being evil now. And yet, I was forced into the ecosystem during my latest job hunt where I realised that not having my activity on GH nor public really worked against me. The combo of MS owning LinkedIn and Github is an awful monopoly on the Tech job market.
Asking in earnest, as I'm not working in that sector: can't you just link them to your codeberg profile?
