Britain is getting SO close to generating electricity without fossil fuels today -- in fact gas went down to just 1.6 GW this morning whilst I was enjoying an 80 mile round trip to Chester on electricity costing MINUS 50 pence. I suspect wind is getting constrained (paid to turn down its output) as the system managers aren't yet ready to let the system run on just wind, solar, hydro and a bit of nuclear. https://grid.iamkate.com
@christineburns great, now we need to get rid of private #fossilfuel cars. Go for electric #carsharing with an app if you need a vehicle, otherwise use public transport. Private cars are a nonsense when 97% of their life they are sitting idle (in Europe).
@dominic @christineburns until it’s practical for low income rural people, and probably more importantly small business owners, to buy cheap electric vehicles, that’s not only impractical, you’ll be screwing some of the least well-off and most vehicle dependant people over. I hear a lot of city folk and very middle-class people who’ve moved out to the countryside talk about this as if it’s a simple matter of just stopping people have ICE vehicles, but it’s really not viable at the moment. There needs to be a lot more help and incentive to stop those people being left behind
@mandelbroccoli @christineburns I agree. If you don't really need an ICE car, don't buy one, it is that simple
