A thought:
If the same message gets posted at the same time (UK morning) on three sites, let’s call them X, M, and B …
Q1: on which site do you first see the post?
Q2: on which site do you first reply / repost / like?
@BenjaminHCCarr @hpcnotes generally Mastodon for news and individuals. There are more project posts on Bsky (especially for European projects). I almost never see something at all if it is only posted on X.
Do you see much stuff posted on both M & B, or does it tend to be one or the other?
@hpcnotes @BenjaminHCCarr A fair number of people as well as news outlets post on both. I think the motivation in each case is reaching the particular audience of each platform. I think the motivation of those who stay on X is similar; even L is used for such reasons. Projects often pick one, lately that seems to be B. My conclusion is that some who post *want* an algorithm or method to put their posts in front of those who haven't seen it. Others just want a conversation. Both are legitimate.
@AlanSill @hpcnotes @BenjaminHCCarr: Still on X? Refer to image found on #BlueSky.
@gerardo @hpcnotes @BenjaminHCCarr I don't use it but haven't deleted it in order to avoid someone camping on the username.
@hpcnotes M M (no B and only X for emergency/weather notices)
@chris_bloke curious why no B?
@hpcnotes last thing I need is another social network, I never have enough time for life as it is.
