This is fantastic!
@NellytheWillow This tile is part of a fireplace that was originally in a farmhous, now in the Museum Burg Linn in Krefeld. Most of the tiles have annimals. The potter is probably a self portrait. In rural potteries potters also made tiles. We see quite a few images of potters at work in 17th century ceramics in the Niederrijn region. See my post of May 18th. I wiil post some more images soon.
It becomes even more wonderful knowing that it is probably a self-portrait. I saw (and boosted) your previous post of the tile to advertise the potter's wares but hadn't made the connection. Thank you! I look forward to seeing more images.
I've just looked at your website and seen you have outlets for your work in St Ives, which much less than 2 hours away from us. Will have a look next time we're down there.
@NellytheWillow Yes, I have work in the St Ives Ceramics gallery for many years and I worked as an artist in residence at the Leach Pottery in 2023, they still have some of the work I made during that residency.
Excellent. I'll look forward to that. I'm doing some writing about the building in which the St Ives Society of Artists has their gallery, which used to be a church, designed by my favourite architect. So I will be down there again.
