@radionz Both native & exotic forest can blow or burn down occasionally. The largest forest fire in NZ, the 1940s Taupo fire, burned more native than exotic area. At a landscape level, forest storage of C is permanent if we regenerate relatively small areas that burn or blow down.

On a proportional basis native forest has burned less than plantation in Aotearoa. This is hard to interpret, because there has generally been more hazardous human activity in plantations. #nzpol #climatechange
