LukeVisited Belchite. The town was the focus of fierce battles during the Spanish civil war, being captured by Republican forces as they sought to reconquer Aragon which had endorsed the coup d'etat of Franco. <br> <br> The town, whilst heavily bombarded, did survive the war, many of the buildings in these images were still inhabited into the 1950s. But Franco wanted to make an example of the town, being one of few the Republicans captured after Nationalists had seized parts of the country. So a new town was built, soulless and suburban, and now home to a population a third the size of what it was before the civil war. <br> <br> Franco insisted the old town be left to rot as a monument to what communism does, ironic of course as it is the clearest example of what fascism does. <br> <br> Highly recommend visiting. CNT Valladolid<p>El 24 de agosto de 1944 la novena compañía de la Segunda División blindada de <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Lecrerc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lecrerc</span></a>, popularmente conocida como la “<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/novena" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>novena</span></a>”, entraba en <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Par%C3%ADs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>París</span></a> a las 20:41, liberándola de la ocupación <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/nazi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nazi</span></a>. Los refugiados españoles habían sido internados en campos de concentración tras su huida a <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Francia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Francia</span></a>, muchos reclutados como mano de obra barata. Muchos de ellos se unirían a la resistencia y el maquis francés, liberando localidades de <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/%C3%81frica" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>África</span></a>, <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Francia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Francia</span></a> e incluso <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Alemania" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Alemania</span></a> con su ayuda. La valentía y arrojo de aquellos veteranos revolucionarios impresionó a los mandos galos.</p><p>El primer tanque que entró en <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Par%C3%ADs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>París</span></a> fue el <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Guadalajara" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Guadalajara</span></a>, conducido por <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/anarquistas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anarquistas</span></a> extremeños. Fueron recibidos como auténticos héroes por el pueblo francés, que acompañaron su llegada con cánticos de “<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/AyCarmela" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AyCarmela</span></a>” y “<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Alasbarricadas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Alasbarricadas</span></a>”, dejando fuera de duda el origen de aquellos combatientes. Los miembros de la “<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/novena" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>novena</span></a>” fueron considerados los grandes liberadores de <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Par%C3%ADs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>París</span></a>, permitiéndoseles liderar el desfile de la victoria bajo el arco del triunfo por delante de las tropas francesas y norteamericanas.</p><p>Aquellos españoles confiaban que los nuevos gobiernos respondieran a su solidaridad liberando <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Espa%C3%B1a" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>España</span></a> del yugo <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/fascista" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fascista</span></a> ahora que sus aliados habían caído. Pero esa liberación nunca llegó.
