"Food has for some time been a gateway to misinformation online, especially when bound up with ‘wellness’ culture. Type the word ‘natural’ in a search bar on any social media platform and it’s easy to fall down a raw milk/ginger-cures-cancer/antivaccine/'NATO is to blame for Russia invading Ukraine' conspiracy theory rabbit hole."

“In recent years, a growing focus on #health and well-being has led to the rise of functional #coffee. From #protein-enriched ready-to-drink beverages to #organic blends to #CBD-infused products, the market is becoming steadily more diverse year after year”
“The #health benefits of #coffee – particularly black filter #coffee – are well-documented”

Perfect Daily Grind · The functional coffee market is booming, but roasters still need to prioritise qualityAs the functional coffee market diversifies, it drives innovation, but roasters need to make sure that novelty doesn’t preside over quality.

The concept of forgiveness is a common tether that binds us to our past. Some are reluctant to forgive bc the act of bearing a grudge keeps an invisible “tote board of wrongs” that helps to keep score.

• Against whom?
• For what purpose?
• To what end?

Don’t forget, you can forgive someone a transgression without *excusing* it. To forgive is a verb. It is an action that you take to free yourself.

Piece about Ko Phangan being swamped by wellness seekers.

It occurs to me that I don't just avoid over-touristed places, they make me avoid them. They tend to not be interesting places to write about, being too one-note and well-known (though at least a popular city gives scope for digging out an unusual story).

"The crowds were growing but manageable until COVID-19 restrictions were lifted and the world’s seekers descended en masse.

"On Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, there are Russians escaping the draft who are high on crypto and cannabis; there are Israelis felled low by trauma and there are Germans, Australians, Swiss and French micro-dosing on mushrooms and macro-dosing on self-care."

The Sydney Morning Herald · The White Lotus effect has landed in Thailand, with a plague of lotus-eatersBy Sarah Macdonald

I’m sick of wellness grifters capitalizing on the deaths of others.

A child died of measles for the first time in a decade. Carrot juice won’t save them. Vaccines will.

There’s nothing wrong with juicing and healthy living.

Unless you do it at the cost of science. It’s not an alternative to vaccinations & never will be.
