I like the Mac layout better than WinBlows, have for years, so will be figuring out how to do something similar with Cinnamon.
Apps centre bottom, info top right. Maybe a few unobtrusive desklets with time, system status, etc. Don’t know if you can pop the app menus out to top bar like Mac, but not an issue.
Not expecting it to be a breeze, but used Linux from 93 to 2001 so have a clue how it works.

Снова экспериментирую с DE. Хотя #xfce устраивал меня почти всем, нашёлся один очень неприятный баг при работе в связке с lightdm: после разблокировки пропадал текстовый курсор и переставал работать ввод с клавиатуры, приходилось несколько раз переключаться мышью между окнами, чтобы курсор снова появился. Возможно, как-то связано с тем, что компьютер многопользовательский, и у второго второго пользователя — LXDE.
Сначала сменил #lightdm на gdm. Баг это побороло, но породило другую проблему: при переключении пользователей через gdm то и дело выдавалась ошибка «Сеанс уже запущен». В итоге вернулся на lightdm, а в качестве среды от безысходности поставил #Cinnamon. И, как это ни странно, он вполне мне понравился! Выглядит куда более современно! Оперативки, правда, занимает со всеми апплетами около 450 Мб, но по сравнению с 400 у XFCe разница не так уж и существенна.
А ещё радует то, что при разблокировке экрана язык ввода пароля всегда английский (казалось бы, мелочь, но когда пользовался XScreenSaver, очень раздражало, когда раскладка оказывалась не та, и компьютер блокировался на несколько секунд). Правда, с настройкой под свои привычки пришлось немного повозиться, слишком уж внешний вид по умолчанию отличается от того, к чему я привык (и то до сих пор не нашёл, как менять порядок значков в systray). Но пока в целом всё работает стабильно и меня устраивает. #linux #desktop_environment
Hmm, Linux #Mint scheint auf dem #MacBook nicht die beste Lösung zu sein.
Ich hatte jetzt schon mehrfache Crashes von #Cinnamon und auch die Netzwerkverbindung stirbt immer mal wieder und lässt sich wohl nur durch einen Neustart wiederbeleben.
Liegt das an Mint oder ist der #Debian-Unterbau das Problem?
Was habt ihr auf euren alten MacBooks (meins ist ein 2012er) so am laufen?

i used to overdose on #cinnamon too
until i found out it has coumarin in it, which can be toxic (you have to eat a *lot*, nothing to worry much about)
there was also lead contamination scare awhile back, but that's not natural (like lead and cadmium in chocolate)
and i found out that the coumarin content is species dependent
get your hands on ceylon cinnamon
it's coumarin content is dramatically lower than other varieties from china, indonesia, and vietnam

Ich setze ja Cinnamenu ein, das kann man zwar ähnlich konfigurieren, aber die Ordnernamen erscheinen erst beim Drüberfahren mit der Maus ...
Das Problem:
#Cinnamon Desktop mit Nouveau Treibern startet auf allen drei Bildschirmen, ist beim Login ungewohnt langsam, baut dann alle drei Bildschirme auf und fünf Sekunden später ist der Windowmanager weg: Taskleisten, Bildschirmhintergrund etc schwarz, auch die Fensterdekorationen sind weg.
Mit Nvidia-Treibern läuft alles, aber nur auf einem der drei Bildschirme, die andere Monitorhardware bzw. die Schnittstellen werden nicht erkannt.

I watched a video yesterday on how to "customize" Gnome. They "customized" it so hard that it transformed into Cinnamon. I don't understand the point of that.
Version 2.0 of "Black Sun" icon theme is out. It's aimed for better KDE experience with 16-22px monochrome icons. Also the huge work on the mimetype icons front has begone (work in progess).
