SpringerLinkLong COVID clinical evaluation, research and impact on society: a global expert consensus - Annals of Clinical Microbiology and AntimicrobialsBackground Long COVID is a complex, heterogeneous syndrome affecting over four hundred million people globally. There are few recommendations, and no formal training exists for medical professionals to assist with clinical evaluation and management of patients with Long COVID. More research into the pathology, cellular, and molecular mechanisms of Long COVID, and treatments is needed. The goal of this work is to disseminate essential information about Long COVID and recommendations about definition, diagnosis, treatment, research and social issues to physicians, researchers, and policy makers to address this escalating global health crisis. Methods A 3-round modified Delphi consensus methodology was distributed internationally to 179 healthcare professionals, researchers, and persons with lived experience of Long COVID in 28 countries. Statements were combined into specific areas: definition, diagnosis, treatment, research, and society. Results The survey resulted in 187 comprehensive statements reaching consensus with the strongest areas being diagnosis and clinical assessment, and general research. We establish conditions for diagnosis of different subgroups within the Long COVID umbrella. Clear consensus was reached that the impacts of COVID-19 infection on children should be a research priority, and additionally on the need to determine the effects of Long COVID on societies and economies. The consensus on COVID and Long COVID is that it affects the nervous system and other organs and is not likely to be observed with initial symptoms. We note, biomarkers are critically needed to address these issues. Conclusions This work forms initial guidance to address the spectrum of Long COVID as a disease and reinforces the need for translational research and large-scale treatment trials for treatment protocols.

"...research shows that regular users of marijuana are at risk for serious conditions, including strokes, heart attacks, cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure and myocarditis, which is an inflammation of the heart muscle.

Now, an increased risk of dementia can be added to the list, according to a large study of more than 6 million people published April 14 in the journal JAMA Neurology."

"The Trump administration has halted a federal program to protect firefighters from dangerous chemicals, including those emitted by burning electric vehicles.

The firefighter health program was swept up in the administration’s massive restructuring of the Department of Health and Human Services. Its demise threatens efforts to keep firefighters safe from cancer-causing chemicals as hard-to-control blazes become more frequent and intense..."

Ready for the next pandemic? Probably not. And who could blame you? The current one has been so much fun.

A recent study indicated that only 1/4 of Americans even understand that they can catch H5N1. And over 60% say they'd refuse, or aren't sure they'd get, a new H5N1 vaccine once it was available.

Incest silentiation 🧶

‘Each person is […] bound by different moral commitments towards the aggressor – depending on the position held and the relationship with one or the other’.

‘In the extended family, friendship and professional circles within which incest is reported, some, now adults, have obviously themselves been victims of abuse, others have been or still are abusers. In the vast majority of cases, these incestuous acts, whether suffered or imposed, have not been reported to the courts or made public. These incestuous acts are also known to others, who talk about them, have talked about them or will talk about them in the future. Circles of acquaintance and gossip intersect.’

Ontario hospitals are cutting services & running deficits due to gross underfunding by Conservative government. "It's the result of years of underfunding, disgraceful for one of the wealthiest provinces. What we need to do is, instead of investing in forprofit care, and that's where a lot of their dollars are going, they need to reinvest in the public healthcare system.” MPP Wayne Gates #publichealth #healthcare #ontario #conservatives #hospitals #hallwaymedicine stcatharinesstandard.ca/news/n

Metroland Media · Niagara Health deficit increases for third straight yearBy Allan Benner

Whooping cough (pertussis) cases have skyrocketed by more than 1,500% nationwide since 2021.

Deaths tied to the disease are also up — hitting 10 last year, compared with about two to four in previous years — and cases are on track to exceed that total in 2025.

"Masking is a reminder that I share a bustling, contradictory world with other people who deserve some assurance that their health, and my own, isn’t taken for granted. So maybe it is a symbol after all. A lasting existential consequence of pandemic fatigue is capitulation to the sentiment that there are some people who deserve to get sick, who deserve to die."

defector.com · Why I Keep Masking | DefectorOne of the earliest photos of me features my grandfather, a doctor from the Philippines, cradling me as a newborn while wearing a face mask. He had a cold at the time and I was as vulnerable as a human being can be. That photo didn’t normalize the idea of wearing face masks for me, […]

The idea that autism is some aberration that can be cured is typical of a movement that celebrates simplistic thinking and loathes human difference.

It’s bad enough we have healthcare workers refusing to mask, now one openly admits to practicing medicine while he has measles!

Does the HHS Secretary condemn this behaviour? No. He praises the doctor as an “extraordinary healer”.

Measles is airborne & wildly contagious. This doctor should lose his license. He almost certainly infected multiple patients.
