When I was young there was no lichen in my area. Lichen is susceptible to air pollution and the air was just too bad. That has changed!

Write today to urge your member of Congress to defend our right to clean, breathable air by opposing any attempts to repeal key components of the Clean Air Act through the Congressional Review Act.

Section of a weathered square wooden post among a patch of pink and white wild radish. The wood of the post has aged to gray and has deep, rough vertical ridges running down from years of being outside in the elements. The angle of sunlight highlights all the ridges of the broad side of the post facing us. The near left corner of the post must be historically the most in shadow as it has a population of yellow orange lichen clinging to the very edge. Half the lichen is glowing in the sun while the other half is in shadow with that side of the post. The flowers are mostly out of focus, a blur of green stalks and feathery pink and white blooms. My very rare find of a rare lichen during the last few days.
It is the second observation of the Branching Pixie Pebblehorn Lichen (Cladonia decorticata) reported on iNaturalist for all of Canada.
Four specimens of this lichen have been found in Alaska.

A wonderful Aberdeenshire recumbent stone circle for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Cothiemuir Wood has one of the most elegant recumbent and flankers.

Visited April 2012. I think the some of trees have been felled since.

A very large stone lying on its side, flanked at either end by tall, tapering standing stones. The stones are patterned with grey lichen. They stand in a grassy clearing within a wood. The encircling trees block off any views. It's a bit of an overcast day.

It's warming up and I did my first morning of yard work. Nice to chat with neighbors again. Two who we already know by name and another that we met for the first time. Then there was the woman who walked by and I said Bonjour and she open-mouth coughed in my direction and kept walking. You can't win 'em all.
