[12:37] Man jailed over €21.6m cocaine seizure in Foynes

A 36-year-old Bulgarian man who was in full control of the shipment and concealment of over €21.6 million worth of cocaine, seized on a bulk carrier docked in Foynes harbour last December, has been given a ten year jail sentence.

Upon the liberation of #Skopje on the 25th September 1918, the cameramen of the Cinematographic section of Photography department of the #Serbian #Army filmed the town's appearance, local musical orchestras, Dušan's bridge, entry of the military units into town, citizens on the town streets, station Ajvatovac close to Skopje, as well as escorting of the captive #Bulgarian soldiers through the town.

I hate #Bulgarian highways.

Official speed limit is 140, everyone drives with 160, the state of the roads doesn't warrant anything above 110, nor does the state of most cars.

Lorries are limited to 90 but the highways only have 2 lanes, which means that there's always a 70km/h difference between the slow lane and the fast lane.

Also, Bulgarians are shit drivers. Total shit. Zero respect for anyone else on the road. Solipsists.

In #bulgarian language, negation is very subtle. We say:

"не ПРАВИ това" (don't DO that)

which is very similar to:

"наПРАВИ това" (DO that)

The negating word "NOT" is almost never stressed, and unlike English, it's weird to say "DON'T do that". Here's a few more examples:

"това не БИВА да се ПРАВИ" (this should not BE DONE)

"тук не СЕ ЯДЕ" (here you DO not EAT)

It doesn't help that the "NOT" is often pronounced quickly and/or with a schwa sound.

I am very happy to share that, thanks to Literature Ireland, I will be translating into #Bulgarian the novel "Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha" by Irish author Roddy Doyle.

The novel won the Booker Prize in 1993. I don't remember exactly why the book grabbed my attention, but after I finished reading it, I just had to convince my publisher to get the translation rights 😀

Here's a little something by Roddy Doyle himself about how he came to write Paddy:
