In Orthodox parts of south-eastern Europe, the best day to go vampire hunting was Saturday. This was because the day following the crucifixion was sacred to the Virgin Mary, who had clung to her faith in those dark hours. Vampires, therefore, were confined to their graves during this day and so could not escape if discovered.
