Has anybody used #Glottolog data?
It is a database of languoids, that is, it contains information on dialects, languages and language families globally, their geographical "ranges", and inter-language relations, and has potential for some pretty cool analyses. Awesome #OpenData for sure. However, I am unsure how it compares to #WALS or #Ethnologue data.

We ran a survey in 30 countries, and focus groups in urban and rural areas in 22 countries, with randomly-recruited members of the public using quotas to ensure socio-demographic representation. The countries chosen represented a roughly even split between Global North and Global South, with every continent represented. Here, afforestation and reforestation was explicitly included, alongside six other carbon removal methods in the survey (see Fig. 1) and four others in the focus groups. Efforts were similarly made to mitigate the well-known naturalism bias, for example by avoiding the un-contextual use

Ha! This is interesting. What it's basically saying is that Malay lost the word for earthquake (which is still extant in other Austronesian language cousins eg Indonesian languages for example, like Javanese) that we had to re-import it from Sanskrit because we have so few of it

Some of the most fundamental concepts in quantitative #Geography and #GIS were published in the #CATMOG series by the Institute of British Geographers (now part of the #RGS). Unfortunately, these publications are rarely available online, and an increasing number of libraries no longer carry this series.
